Welcome, please join me and rediscover your kitchen, your health and your vitality with me!
Life has thrown many changes at me over the last few years, including moving halfway across the world, getting married, buying our first house and becoming a mother! But as big as all those things are, one of the biggest changes has been how I eat; I can no longer eat gluten, dairy or soy.
In cutting these foods out of my diet, I discovered a whole new lifestyle and way of thinking. I also found that there is a wealth of information about being gluten and allergy free, but that a lot of it focuses on replacements for the foods I used to eat, rather than embracing a new way of life. It also tends to focus on some very expensive and or complicated ingredients and recipes, when something simple would do just fine. So I created this blog to share my recipes, disasters and experiences, and to find some like minded people.
The more I learned about food, the more I started to realize just how integral it is to equality, human rights and our future as a nation, and how those very things are being eroded right under our noses. These are some uncertain times we are living in, but I hope to be a beacon of calm in the storm, offering some practical advice and tested strategies to thrive no matter what comes our way.
I hope you will join me in some thought provoking discussions and ideas on what we can do to have a positive impact on this world.
"..be the change you want to see in the world." Mahatma Gandhi.
Food is powerful, and we can use it for good or for bad right now.
You will find plenty of recipes for treats and comfort foods here, and all recipes will be kid and husband approved, but the focus will be on whole, simple, tasty and inexpensive everyday eating.
I chose the name "Rediscovering the Kitchen" because as I started learning more and more about food, I started thinking about it very differently, and the kitchen started becoming a place of so much more than just slaving over a hot stove. Sure, it has always been a gathering place for good friends and good times, but did you know that traditionally medicine, beauty and cleaning products came from the kitchen too?
Many people are returning to their kitchens for this very reason, and finding that these recipes are just as, if not more effective as commercial products, often at a fraction of the cost. I will be sharing recipes for these products too.
I would love to have you join me in this journey by subscribing through email or an RSS feed over in the right sidebar, just under my picture. I look forward to seeing your comments!
